Paul Tonko

Paul Tonko, born on June eighteenth, nineteen forty-nine, is a prominent American politician and engineer. He has been serving as the U.S. representative for New York's twentieth congressional district since two thousand thirteen, following his tenure representing the twenty-first congressional district from two thousand nine to two thousand thirteen. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, Tonko is recognized as a staunch progressive, advocating for policies that align with his values.

Before his congressional career, Tonko made significant contributions in the New York State Assembly, where he represented the one hundred fifth district from nineteen eighty-three to two thousand seven. His expertise in energy policy was further demonstrated when he was appointed president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, a position he held until his resignation in April two thousand eight. Shortly thereafter, he declared his candidacy for Congress and was elected in November two thousand eight.

In the current Congress, Tonko serves as the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment, a role he has held since two thousand thirteen.
