Pedro Lascuráin

Pedro Lascuráin, born on May eighth, eighteen fifty-six, was a prominent Mexican politician and lawyer, best known for his remarkably brief tenure as the thirty-eighth president of Mexico. His presidency, which lasted a mere forty-five minutes on February nineteenth, nineteen thirteen, holds the record for the shortest in history. Lascuráin was the grandson of Mariano Paredes, who served as the fifteenth president of Mexico, and he came from a wealthy family in Mexico City.

Lascuráin pursued his education in law at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, where he laid the foundation for a successful legal career. He held various positions within the local government and served two terms as Mexico's foreign secretary. His legal expertise also led him to direct a small law school in Mexico City for sixteen years, shaping the minds of future lawyers.

During the tumultuous period of the Mexican Revolution, Lascuráin was appointed secretary of foreign affairs under President Francisco I. Madero. However, the political landscape shifted dramatically during the Ten Tragic Days, a coup that resulted in the ousting of Madero and Vice President José María Pino Suárez. In the chaos, Lascuráin briefly ascended to the presidency, where he appointed the coup's leader, Victoriano Huerta, as foreign secretary before resigning almost immediately.

Following his fleeting presidency, Lascuráin chose to retire from the political arena and refocused on his legal career. He continued to influence the legal field as the director of the Escuela Libre de Derecho. Pedro Lascuráin passed away at the age of ninety-six in Mexico City, leaving behind a legacy defined by the brevity of his presidential administration.
