Peggy Ashcroft

Peggy Ashcroft was a distinguished English actress whose remarkable career spanned over six decades, captivating audiences both on stage and screen. Born on December twenty-second, nineteen oh seven, in Croydon, Surrey, she was determined to pursue her passion for acting from a young age, despite facing opposition from her middle-class family.

Her journey in the performing arts began in smaller theatres before she graduated from drama school, and within just two years, she was gracing the stages of the West End. Ashcroft's dedication to her craft allowed her to maintain a prominent position in British theatre for the next fifty years, where she became known for her work with esteemed companies such as the Old Vic in the early 1930s, John Gielgud's companies throughout the 1930s and 1940s, and the Royal Shakespeare Company from the 1950s onward.
