Peregrino Anselmo

Peregrino Anselmo, born on April thirtieth, nineteen hundred and two, was a distinguished Uruguayan footballer renowned for his role as a striker. He made his mark on the international stage as a member of the Uruguay national team that triumphed in the inaugural FIFA World Cup held in nineteen thirty. Anselmo's remarkable performance included scoring three goals during the tournament, with two of those coming in the semi-finals, solidifying his legacy as the first false nine in World Cup history.

In addition to his World Cup success, Anselmo was part of the squad that secured a gold medal at the nineteen twenty-eight Summer Olympics, although he did not participate in any matches during the event. His contributions to football extended beyond his playing career; he also took on the role of coach for C.A. Peñarol, one of Uruguay's most prestigious clubs.

As a coach, Anselmo succeeded the Hungarian Béla Guttmann in mid-nineteen sixty-two and led C.A. Peñarol to victory in the Uruguayan championship that same year. His tenure, although brief, was marked by significant achievements that showcased his tactical acumen and leadership skills. Following his departure in late nineteen sixty-three, he was succeeded by the Uruguayan goalkeeper Roque Máspoli, who continued the club's legacy.
