Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Peroz I

Peroz I, the Sasanian King of Kings, ruled Iran from four hundred fifty-nine to four hundred eighty-four. Born to Yazdegerd II, Peroz's ascent to the throne was marked by a fierce struggle against his elder brother, Hormizd III. After two years of conflict, he claimed the crown, but his reign was overshadowed by war and famine.

In the early years of his rule, Peroz demonstrated military prowess by quelling a rebellion in Caucasian Albania and defeating the Kidarites in the east, which allowed him to briefly expand Sasanian influence into Tokharistan. However, this expansion came at a time when Iran was grappling with a devastating seven-year famine, complicating his efforts to maintain stability.

Peroz's challenges intensified with the rise of the Hephthalites, former subjects of the Kidarites. His attempts to secure his gains were thwarted as he faced defeat and capture on two occasions. The situation worsened in four hundred eighty-two when revolts erupted in Armenia and Iberia, led by Vahan Mamikonian and Vakhtang I. Before he could restore order, Peroz was ultimately defeated and killed in his third confrontation with the Hephthalites in four hundred eighty-four.

His death marked a significant turning point for the Sasanian Empire, plunging it into a period of political and social upheaval. The nobility and clergy gained substantial power, leading to the election of Peroz's brother, Balash, as the new king. It was not until the reign of Peroz's son, Kavad I, that the empire began to recover, eventually leading to the downfall of the Hephthalites by Peroz's grandson, Khosrow I.
