Petar Snačić

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Petar Snačić

Petar Snačić, also known as Petar Svačić, emerged as a significant feudal lord during a tumultuous period in Croatian history. His rise to power followed the death of the last Trpimirović ruler, Stephen II, around the year one thousand ninety-three. Initially serving as a ban under King Demetrius Zvonimir of Croatia, Petar later proclaimed himself king, challenging the claims of Ladislaus I of Hungary to the Croatian throne.

His seat of power was established in Knin, where he sought to consolidate his authority amidst the ongoing struggles for control of the kingdom. Petar's reign was characterized by fierce conflicts, particularly with Coloman of Hungary, as both sought dominance over Croatia.

Tragically, Petar's quest for power came to an end at the Battle of Gvozd Mountain in one thousand ninety-seven, where he lost his life. Following his death, Coloman was crowned in Croatia, and the signing of the Pacta Conventa in one thousand one hundred two marked the beginning of the Árpád dynasty's official rule over the entirety of the Kingdom of Croatia and Dalmatia.
