Peter Ashdown

Peter Ashdown, born on October sixteenth, nineteen thirty-four, is a former motor racing driver and engineer known for his contributions to the world of motorsport. His journey began as a vehicle mechanic, and after spending several years in the Royal Air Force, he transitioned into racing. Initially, he was seen competing in a Dellow equipped with a Ford 10 engine, before moving on to race as a privateer in a Lotus Mark IX around nineteen fifty-five.

Before making his mark in Formula One, Ashdown was a prominent figure in the British Formula Junior scene. However, his career faced a significant setback in nineteen fifty-eight when he suffered a collarbone injury in an accident at Rouen-Les-Essarts. Despite this challenge, he persevered and made his Formula Two debut in a Cooper-Climax at the nineteen fifty-nine British Grand Prix held at Aintree, finishing in twelfth place, which was commendable as he was the third among the Formula Two competitors.

Throughout his racing career, Ashdown also drove a Formula Junior Lola and various small-engined sports cars. Notably, he achieved class victories in the 1960 and 1962 editions of the 1000km of Nürburgring. During the latter race, he and co-driver Bruce Johnstone secured a historic win for the Lotus 23 in the one-liter Sportscar class, showcasing their skill and determination against the odds.

After retiring from racing in nineteen sixty-two, Ashdown shifted his focus to the automotive industry, establishing a Vauxhall dealership in Essex. His legacy in motorsport remains significant, reflecting his passion and dedication to the sport.
