Péter Baczakó

Péter Baczakó, born on September 27, 1951, was a distinguished Hungarian weightlifter whose remarkable career left an indelible mark on the sport. He achieved significant success at the Summer Olympics, securing a bronze medal in 1976 and a gold medal in 1980. Baczakó's prowess extended beyond the Olympic stage, as he amassed a total of twenty-three medals, including four golds, at various world and European championships from 1973 to 1982.

Throughout his athletic journey, Baczakó was a dedicated member of the Budapest club BKV-Elore, where he honed his skills and ultimately transitioned into coaching after retiring from competitive weightlifting. His commitment to the sport and his athletes was evident as he shared his expertise and passion with the next generation of weightlifters.

Sadly, Péter Baczakó's life came to an end on April 1, 2008, in Budapest, where he succumbed to cancer. In his later years, he faced the challenges of muscular dystrophy, which confined him to a wheelchair during his final months. Despite these hardships, his legacy as a champion and mentor continues to inspire many in the world of weightlifting.
