Peter Balakian

Peter Balakian, born on June thirteenth, nineteen fifty-one, is a distinguished American poet, prose writer, and scholar. His literary contributions span various genres, showcasing his versatility and depth as a writer. Balakian's work has garnered critical acclaim, including the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for his 2016 collection of poems, Ozone Journal.

In addition to his poetry, Balakian is known for his impactful memoir, Black Dog of Fate, which won the PEN/Albrand award in nineteen ninety-eight. His exploration of historical themes is further exemplified in The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America's Response, a work that not only became a New York Times best seller in October two thousand three but also earned the Raphael Lemkin Prize in two thousand five.

Since nineteen eighty, Balakian has been an integral part of the academic community at Colgate University, where he holds the title of Donald M and Constance H Rebar Professor of the Humanities in the English department.
