Peter I of Courtenay

Peter I of Courtenay, born on September first, one thousand one hundred twenty-six, was a notable politician and the sixth son of Louis VI of France and his second wife, Adélaide de Maurienne. His lineage is significant, as he was the father of Peter II of Courtenay, who would later become the Latin Emperor.

Originating from France, Peter's life journey led him to the Kingdom of Jerusalem, where he ultimately passed away. In approximately the year one thousand one hundred fifty, he entered into matrimony with Elizabeth de Courtenay, born in one thousand one hundred twenty-seven and who lived until September of one thousand two hundred five. Elizabeth was the daughter of Renaud de Courtenay and Hawise du Donjon, marking the beginning of the Capetian line of the House of Courtenay.

There exists a persistent rumor regarding Peter's final resting place, suggesting that he may be buried in a tomb located in the floor of Exeter Cathedral, alongside his wife Elizabeth.
