Peter II of Russia, born on October twelfth, seventeen fifteen, ascended to the throne as Emperor of Russia at the tender age of twelve. His reign, which lasted from seventeen twenty-seven until his untimely death in seventeen thirty, was marked by a significant lack of engagement in state affairs. As the only son of Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich and Charlotte Christine of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Peter's life was shaped by the political machinations surrounding him.

Following the death of Catherine I, Peter II found himself under the influence of Alexander Menshikov, who initially sought to control the young emperor. However, Menshikov's power was challenged by rivals, leading to his eventual exile, a move that reflected the turbulent political landscape of the time. Peter's reign was further complicated by the influence of favorites like Prince Aleksey Dolgorukov, which contributed to a growing neglect of governance and an increase in the tightening of serfdom.

Despite his royal status, Peter II's rule was characterized by disorder and indulgence rather than effective leadership. His engagement to Ekaterina Dolgorukova was a notable aspect of his personal life, yet it was tragically cut short when he succumbed to smallpox at the age of fourteen. This sudden demise not only ended his reign but also marked him as the last male agnatic member of the illustrious House of Romanov.
