Peter Machajdík

Peter Machajdík, born on June first, nineteen sixty-one, is a distinguished Slovak composer, pianist, and university educator. Hailing from Bratislava, Slovakia, he has garnered critical acclaim for his diverse body of work, which spans chamber, orchestral, electronic, choral, and theatrical compositions. His music often reflects profound questions about society, advocating for humanity and responsibility amidst the challenges of modern life.

In the nineteen nineties, Machajdík participated in seminars with notable figures such as Vinko Globokar, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Clarence Barlow. His artistic journey led him to the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in nineteen ninety-two, further enriching his creative repertoire. He has composed across nearly all musical genres, including orchestral, band, choral, chamber music, and liturgical works, showcasing his versatility and depth as a composer.

Machajdík is also known for his innovative graphic notations, particularly the 'Dialogue with...' series, which incorporates visual elements alongside written correspondence from fellow composers. His orchestral works have been performed by esteemed ensembles, including the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others. Collaborations with artists such as Jon Anderson and various conductors and instrumentalists highlight his dynamic presence in the contemporary music scene.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Machajdík has contributed to film scores for projects like '4 Schüler gegen Stalin' and 'Wild Slovakia.' He has worked closely with choreographers and dancers, further expanding his artistic influence. A vegetarian and teetotaler, he currently resides in Berlin and a quaint Slovak town nestled in a valley, surrounded by majestic hills. Presently, he serves as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Arts in Košice, continuing to inspire the next generation of musicians.
