Peter A. Ramsey, born on December 23, 1962, is a distinguished American filmmaker, illustrator, and storyboard artist. With a career that spans various facets of the animation industry, he has made significant contributions as a director and producer.
Ramsey gained widespread recognition for his groundbreaking work on DreamWorks Animation's 'Rise of the Guardians' in 2012. This achievement marked him as the first African American to direct a computer-animated film, as well as the second African American to helm a major American animated feature, following Bruce W. Smith's direction of 'Bebe's Kids' in 1992.
In 2018, he co-directed the critically acclaimed 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' for Sony Pictures Animation. This film not only showcased his innovative storytelling but also earned him the distinction of being the first African American to be nominated for and win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
