Peter Taptuna

Peter Taptuna, born in nineteen fifty-five, is a prominent Canadian politician who made significant contributions to the territory of Nunavut. He served as the third premier of Nunavut from two thousand thirteen to two thousand seventeen, marking a pivotal period in the region's governance.

Taptuna's political journey began when he was first elected in the general election on October twenty-seven, two thousand eight. He represented Kugluktuk, the most western riding of Nunavut, in the third Legislative Assembly. His leadership skills were recognized when he was elected as Nunavut's third Premier during the Nunavut Leadership Forum on November fifteen, two thousand thirteen, and he was officially sworn into office shortly thereafter on November nineteen, two thousand thirteen.

Before ascending to the premiership, Taptuna held various key positions within the Nunavut government from two thousand nine to two thousand thirteen. His roles included Deputy Premier and Minister Responsible for several important sectors, such as the Nunavut Development Corporation, the Nunavut Business Credit Corporation, and Mines. Additionally, he served as the Minister of Economic Development and Transportation from November nineteen, two thousand eight.
