Philip de László

Philip Alexius László de Lombos, born Fülöp Laub on April 30, 1869, was a distinguished Anglo-Hungarian painter celebrated for his exquisite portraits of royalty and aristocracy. His artistic journey began in Hungary, where he honed his skills before making a significant impact in the art world.

In 1900, László married Lucy Guinness, an Anglo-Irish socialite, which further solidified his connections within elite circles. His talent did not go unnoticed; he received numerous accolades throughout his career, including being invested with the Royal Victorian Order by King Edward VII in 1909.

In 1912, László's contributions to the arts were recognized when he was ennobled by Franz Joseph I of Austria, granting him a place among the Hungarian nobility. This honor reflected not only his artistic prowess but also his status within society.

Becoming a British subject in 1914, László continued to create remarkable works that captured the essence of his subjects. His legacy endures through the timeless portraits that remain a testament to his skill and dedication to the art of painting.
