Philipp Degen, born on February 15, 1983, is a retired Swiss professional footballer known for his versatility on the field. Primarily a right back, he also showcased his skills as a left back and on the right wing throughout his career. Degen's journey in professional football began at FC Basel, where he spent four seasons in the first team, establishing himself as a reliable defender.

His talent caught the attention of Borussia Dortmund, where he played for three years. Unfortunately, his time in Germany was marred by injuries, impacting his performance during his final season. Returning to FC Basel marked a new chapter in Degen's career, where he continued to contribute to the team's success. Over the years, he amassed an impressive total of eight Swiss championship titles, solidifying his legacy in Swiss football. Degen also represented his country on the international stage, reaching the last sixteen in the 2006 World Cup and being selected for Euro 2008, although he did not see any game time during the tournament.

After a distinguished career, Philipp Degen hung up his boots at the end of the 2015/16 season, leaving behind a rich legacy in Swiss football.
