Philipp Spener

Philipp Spener, born on January thirteenth, sixteen thirty-five, was a prominent German Lutheran theologian and missionary who played a pivotal role in the development of Pietism, a movement that sought to revitalize the spiritual life of the church. In sixteen ninety-one, Spener accepted an invitation to Berlin from the court of Brandenburg, where he continued to challenge the prevailing Lutheran orthodoxy. His theological positions often put him at odds with established norms, leading to significant disputes, including a formal accusation of two hundred sixty-four errors by the theological faculty of Wittenberg.
