Philippe Gilbert

Philippe Gilbert, born on July fifth, nineteen eighty-two, is a distinguished Belgian former professional road bicycle racer celebrated for his remarkable versatility. Throughout his illustrious career, he achieved the rare feat of winning four out of the five major cycling monuments, alongside clinching the World Road Race Championships title in two thousand twelve. His prowess was further highlighted in two thousand eleven when he became one of only two riders, alongside Davide Rebellin, to triumph in all three Ardennes classics – the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège – within a single season.

As a specialist in classic races, Gilbert's accolades include victories in prestigious events such as Paris–Tours, which he won twice in two thousand eight and two thousand nine, and the Giro di Lombardia, also a two-time champion in two thousand nine and two thousand ten. His dominance in the Amstel Gold Race is notable, having won it four times across two thousand ten, two thousand eleven, two thousand fourteen, and two thousand seventeen. In two thousand seventeen, he made history by becoming the third rider ever to win both the Tour of Flanders and the Amstel Gold Race in the same year, following in the footsteps of legends Eddy Merckx and Jan Raas.
