Philo of Byzantium

Philo of Byzantium, known as Philo Mechanicus, was a prominent Greek engineer and physicist who made significant contributions to the field of mechanics during the latter half of the third century BC. Born around two hundred eighty BC in Byzantium, he spent a considerable part of his life in Alexandria, Egypt, a hub of knowledge and innovation in the ancient world.

Although the exact timeline of his life remains somewhat ambiguous, it is believed that Philo was a contemporary of Ctesibius, possibly even a century younger. His works reflect a deep understanding of mechanical principles, showcasing his expertise as both a mathematician and a writer.
