Pierre Corbeil

Pierre Corbeil, born on June twenty-third, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished figure in Quebec's political and dental landscape. He served as the mayor of Val-d'Or from two thousand thirteen to two thousand twenty-one, showcasing his commitment to local governance. A member of the Quebec Liberal Party, Corbeil also represented the Abitibi-Est constituency as a Member of the National Assembly, where he held significant cabinet positions under Premier Jean Charest.

Corbeil's academic journey began at the Université de Montréal, where he earned his doctorate in dentistry in nineteen seventy-eight. Following his education, he became an associate at a dental clinic and later took on leadership roles, including manager and vice-president of the Quebec Association of Dental Surgeons. His community involvement extended to serving as president of the Val-d'Or Chamber of Commerce and a municipal councillor for nearly a decade, as well as leading a local hockey league.

His political career took off in two thousand three when he was elected as MNA for Abitibi-Est. Corbeil was appointed Minister of Forest, Wildlife and Parks the same year, and in two thousand five, he transitioned to Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife. His tenure was marked by the challenging economic landscape of the lumber sector, where he faced plant and sawmill closures that resulted in significant job losses across regions like Outaouais, Nord-du-Québec, and Abitibi-Témiscamingue. In response, he proposed restructuring plans aimed at revitalizing the economies of affected towns.

After a setback in the two thousand seven election, where he was defeated by the Parti Québécois's Alexis Wawanoloath, Corbeil made a comeback in two thousand eight. He was re-elected and appointed as the minister responsible for Indian Affairs, a role previously held by Benoit Pelletier. Corbeil's journey reflects a blend of dedication to public service and a commitment to his profession as a dentist.
