Pierre de Castelnau, born in the year one thousand one hundred seventy, was a notable French ecclesiastic whose life was marked by his unwavering commitment to the Church and its doctrines.

In the year one thousand one hundred ninety-nine, he was appointed as a papal legate, tasked with the critical mission of addressing the growing Cathar heresy that threatened the fabric of the Catholic faith in southern France.

Tragically, his efforts to combat this heresy were cut short when he was murdered in the year one thousand two hundred eight. His death was a significant event that reverberated throughout the Church and the region.

In the aftermath of his assassination, Pope Innocent III took decisive action by beatifying Pierre de Castelnau, excommunicating Count Raymond VI of Toulouse, and declaring the Albigensian Crusade, which aimed to eradicate the Cathar movement.
