Pierre Dupong

Pierre Dupong, born on January eleventh, eighteen eighty-five, was a prominent Luxembourgish politician and statesman who left an indelible mark on the country's political landscape. He served as the Prime Minister of Luxembourg for an impressive sixteen years, from November fifth, nineteen thirty-seven, until his passing on December twenty-third, nineteen fifty-three. Throughout his career, Dupong held various ministerial roles, including finance, army, agriculture, labor, and social matters, showcasing his versatility and commitment to public service.

In nineteen fourteen, Dupong was a founding member of the Party of the Right, which later evolved into the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) after the Second World War. His political journey began in nineteen fifteen when he was elected to the legislature. He served as Director-General for Finance from nineteen twenty-six to nineteen thirty-seven and held the position of Minister for Social Security and Labor in the years preceding his premiership.

During the tumultuous years of World War II, Dupong led the Luxembourgish government-in-exile from nineteen forty to nineteen forty-four after the Nazi occupation of Luxembourg. He, along with his family and the Grand Ducal Family, fled to France, navigating through various locations before ultimately reaching New York City in October nineteen forty. His leadership during this period was crucial in maintaining Luxembourg's governance and identity in exile.

After the war, Dupong presided over several governments, including the Liberation Government and the National Union Government. He is also remembered for his significant contribution to international peacekeeping, as he sent Luxembourgish soldiers to participate in the United Nations mission during the Korean War. Pierre Dupong's legacy continues through his son, Jean Dupong, who followed in his father's footsteps to become a minister and CSV deputy.
