Pierre-Évariste Leblanc

Pierre-Évariste Leblanc was born on August 10, 1853, in Saint-Martin, which is now part of Laval, Quebec. Before embarking on his political journey, he made a name for himself as a teacher and a lawyer, laying a strong foundation for his future endeavors in public service.

Leblanc became a prominent figure in the Quebec Conservative Party, eventually rising to the position of leader. His political career began in earnest when he was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election in 1882, representing the riding of Laval. He served as the leader of the Opposition from 1905 to 1908, a period marked by significant political activity, although he never attained the role of premier.

In 1908, Leblanc faced a setback when he lost both the election and his seat. However, his contributions to Quebec's political landscape did not go unnoticed. He was appointed as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, a position he held from February 12, 1915, until his passing in 1918 at Spencer Wood, Sillery.

Leblanc's legacy continues to be honored, as he was laid to rest at the cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges in Montreal, a testament to his enduring impact on the province's history.
