Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Pierre Mercure

Pierre Mercure, born on February twenty-first, nineteen twenty-seven, in Montreal, was a multifaceted Canadian composer, TV producer, bassoonist, and administrator. His musical journey began at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal, where he excelled in his studies, earning prestigious honors such as the Premier prix in Harmony and Counterpoint, as well as the Deuxième prix in bassoon in nineteen forty-nine. Under the guidance of his primary composition teacher, Claude Champagne, Mercure honed his craft, further enriching his education with brief studies in composition with renowned figures like Nadia Boulanger in Paris and Luigi Dallapiccola at Tanglewood.

Mercure's early career was marked by his contributions to the ballet scene, where he composed four ballets between nineteen forty-eight and nineteen fifty. His creative repertoire expanded to include orchestral, chamber, and electronic music, reflecting his commitment to advancing the Canadian new music community. He was dedicated to elevating Canadian compositions to match the standards of European and American classical music, which led him to undertake numerous trips to France to immerse himself in the vibrant new music landscape.

Tragically, Mercure's promising life was cut short when he died in a road traffic accident near Avallon, France, at the young age of thirty-eight. His legacy, however, continues to resonate within the Canadian music scene. He was married to actress Monique Mercure from nineteen forty-nine until their separation in nineteen fifty-eight, a partnership that intertwined their artistic lives during a significant period of his career.
