Pierre Mollet

Pierre Mollet, born on March twenty-third, nineteen twenty in Switzerland, was a distinguished Canadian operatic baritone and choir director. He became a naturalized Canadian citizen in nineteen seventy-four and later married the talented Canadian pianist Suzanne Blondin in nineteen seventy-nine.

Mollet's musical journey began at the Lausanne Conservatory, where he honed his craft under the guidance of the esteemed Charles Panzéra. His talent was recognized early on when he secured second prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in nineteen forty-six. The following year, he furthered his studies in music interpretation with the renowned Nadia Boulanger in Paris, immersing himself in the vibrant concert scene of the late nineteen forties and fifties.

From nineteen forty-eight to nineteen sixty-two, Mollet traveled extensively across Northern Africa and France, performing in concerts organized by Jeunesses Musicales International. His artistry graced several prestigious music festivals, including the Strasbourg Festival and the Aix-en-Provence Festival, where he captivated audiences with his powerful voice.

Making his professional opera debut in nineteen fifty-two, Mollet portrayed Pelléas in Claude Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande at the Opéra-Comique, later recording the role with conductor Ernest Ansermet. His interpretation of Pelléas led to performances across Europe and South America. Notably, he created the role of Eraste in Frank Martin's opera Monsieur de Pourceaugnac and took on significant roles such as Albert in Massenet's Werther and Mercutio in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette.
