Piers Sellers

Piers Sellers, born on April 11, 1955, was a distinguished British-American meteorologist and NASA astronaut, renowned for his contributions to Earth science. He served as the Director of the Earth Science Division at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, where he was instrumental in advancing our understanding of the Earth's climate systems.

His academic journey began at Cranbrook School in Kent, United Kingdom, where he completed his education in 1973. Sellers then pursued a bachelor's degree in ecological science at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1976. His passion for the environment led him to earn a doctorate in biometeorology from the University of Leeds in 1981.

Before his illustrious career as an astronaut, Sellers dedicated his efforts to research at NASA Goddard, focusing on the intricate interactions between the Earth's biosphere and atmosphere. His work involved sophisticated climate system computer modeling and extensive field research utilizing aircraft, satellites, and ground support.
