With a remarkable career spanning decades, he has recorded over one hundred complete operas and is celebrated for his versatility, performing in multiple languages including Italian, French, German, Spanish, English, and Russian across the world's most prestigious opera houses.

Initially recognized as a lirico-spinto tenor, Domingo gained acclaim for his portrayals of iconic characters such as Cavaradossi, Hoffmann, Don José, and Canio. He later transitioned into more dramatic roles, becoming the most acclaimed Otello of his generation. In the early 2010s, he shifted from tenor to baritone, taking on roles like Simon Boccanegra, and as of twenty twenty, he has performed one hundred fifty-one different roles.

Beyond opera, Domingo has achieved significant success as a crossover artist, particularly in Latin and popular music. He has won fourteen Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, with several of his albums achieving silver, gold, platinum, and multi-platinum status. His first pop album, Perhaps Love, released in nineteen eighty-one, featured a duet with John Denver and sold almost four million copies, expanding his fame beyond the opera realm.
