Plínio Salgado

Plínio Salgado, born on January twenty-second, nineteen ninety-five, was a multifaceted Brazilian figure known for his roles as a journalist, politician, writer, and poet. He is perhaps best remembered as the founder and leader of the Brazilian Integralist Action, a political party that drew inspiration from the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini.

Initially, Salgado supported the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas, but his political journey took a tumultuous turn when he was persecuted and subsequently exiled to Portugal for advocating an uprising against the government. Upon his return to Brazil, he established the Popular Representation Party and made significant strides in his political career, being elected to represent Paraná in the Chamber of Deputies in nineteen fifty-eight and re-elected in nineteen sixty-two to represent São Paulo.

In the nineteen fifty-five presidential election, Salgado garnered eight point twenty-eight percent of the votes, showcasing his influence in Brazilian politics. Following the coup d'état in nineteen sixty-four, which resulted in the dissolution of political parties, he aligned himself with the National Renewal Alliance, serving two terms in the Chamber of Deputies before retiring from politics in nineteen seventy-four, just a year prior to his death.
