Pope Anacletus

Pope Anacletus, also known as Cletus, was a significant figure in early Christianity, serving as the bishop of Rome from approximately AD 80 until his death around AD 92. His tenure followed that of the apostles Peter and Linus, marking him as an important leader in the formative years of the Church.

Born around AD 15, Anacletus was a Roman by birth. During his papacy, he was instrumental in the ordination of numerous priests and is traditionally credited with establishing about twenty-five parishes throughout Rome. This expansion played a crucial role in the growth of the Christian community in the city.

Although the exact dates of his pontificate remain uncertain, it is believed that he died a martyr, possibly around AD 91. His legacy endures, as he is mentioned in the Roman Canon of the mass, and his feast day is celebrated on April 26 each year.
