Pope Eumenes of Alexandria

Pope Eumenes of Alexandria, revered as the seventh Pope and Patriarch, held his position from the year one hundred twenty-nine until one hundred forty-one AD. His leadership began during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, when he was chosen in July, a month known as Abib in the Egyptian calendar. Eumenes succeeded Pope Justus and became the second Dean of the Catechetical School of Alexandria, a pivotal institution for early Christian education.

Throughout his papacy, Eumenes was instrumental in the ordination of numerous Bishops, empowering them to spread the message of salvation across Egypt, Nubia, and the regions of Pentapolis. His commitment to evangelism was unwavering, as he sought to ensure that the teachings of Christianity reached far and wide, despite the challenges faced during his tenure.

Unfortunately, Eumenes' time as Pope coincided with a period of intensified persecution against Christians. Many faithful followers were martyred for their beliefs, highlighting the trials faced by the early Church. Despite these adversities, Eumenes remained a respected figure among Christians in Alexandria, guiding his flock with strength and conviction.

After a dedicated reign of thirteen years, Pope Eumenes passed away on the ninth of Babah, corresponding to the nineteenth of October in the year one hundred forty-one AD. His legacy as a leader and educator continues to resonate within the Christian community.
