Pope Pius I

Pope Pius I, born in the year ninety-five, served as the bishop of Rome from approximately one hundred forty until his death around one hundred fifty-four. His papacy is noted for its opposition to the Valentinians and Gnostics, two groups that posed significant theological challenges during his time.

Recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church, Pope Pius I is commemorated with a feast day on the eleventh of July. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain uncertain, leaving open the question of whether he died as a martyr.
