Pope Silverius

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Pope Silverius

Pope Silverius, born in the year four hundred seventy-seven, rose to prominence within the Catholic Church as a dedicated priest. His journey from deacon to the papacy was marked by significant political maneuvering, particularly during a tumultuous period in history.

He served as the bishop of Rome from eight June five hundred thirty-six until his deposition in five hundred thirty-seven, just months before his untimely death. His elevation to the papacy coincided with the ambitions of Ostrogothic king Theodahad, who sought to place a pro-Gothic candidate in power amid the brewing Gothic War.

However, Silverius's papacy was short-lived. He faced opposition from Byzantine general Belisarius, who ultimately deposed him. Following his removal, Silverius was tried and exiled to the desolate island of Palmarola, where he endured a tragic fate, succumbing to starvation in the year five hundred thirty-seven.
