Prabowo Subianto

Prabowo Subianto, born on October seventeenth, nineteen fifty-one, is a prominent Indonesian politician, businessman, and retired military officer. He has made history as the eighth president of Indonesia, taking office on October twentieth, twenty twenty-four. His political journey has been marked by significant roles, including serving as the twenty-sixth minister of defense under President Joko Widodo from two thousand nineteen to two thousand twenty-four.

Graduating from the Indonesian Military Academy in nineteen seventy, Prabowo dedicated much of his early career to the Special Forces (Kopassus) and later led the Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) in nineteen ninety-eight. However, his military career faced controversy when he was discharged and subsequently banned from entering the United States due to allegations of human rights abuses.

In two thousand eight, Prabowo co-founded the Gerindra Party, marking the beginning of his political aspirations. He first ran for vice presidency in the two thousand nine elections alongside Megawati Sukarnoputri, but the ticket was unsuccessful. His subsequent presidential bids in two thousand fourteen and two thousand nineteen against Joko Widodo were also met with defeat, leading to protests from his supporters in Jakarta.

Despite these setbacks, Prabowo's political resilience shone through when he joined Joko Widodo's cabinet as minister of defense. In October twenty twenty-one, he was announced as Gerindra's candidate for the twenty twenty-four presidential election, and by February fourteen, twenty twenty-four, he declared victory in the first round of voting. The General Election Commission certified his win on March twentieth, and the Constitutional Court confirmed his presidency on April twenty-second, twenty twenty-four.
