Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Prajadhipok

Prajadhipok, born on November eighth, nineteen ninety-three, was the seventh monarch of the Chakri dynasty and the last king of Siam under the absolute monarchy. He ascended to the throne in nineteen twenty-five, reigning until his abdication in nineteen thirty-five, a decision influenced by his fallout with the new democratic government following the Siamese Revolution of nineteen thirty-two, which marked the end of absolute monarchy in the country.

Born during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, Prajadhipok was the youngest son of Chulalongkorn and Queen Saovabha Phongsri. He succeeded his brother, King Vajiravudh, and initiated significant reforms aimed at modernizing Siam. His contributions included the establishment of the Privy Council, advancements in financial and public-utility regulations, and the founding of the National Library. He also expanded university education, established the Royal Institute, and commissioned the complete Thai-script edition of the Tripitaka.

Despite these reforms, Prajadhipok's reign was marred by weak political leadership and economic turmoil exacerbated by the Great Depression, which ultimately led to the revolution in nineteen thirty-two. Following a failed royalist reactionary revolt in nineteen thirty-three, he chose self-imposed exile in Britain, where he later abdicated.

After his abdication, Prajadhipok and Queen Rambai Barni settled in England, never to return to Siam. With no heirs, the cabinet and parliament invited his young nephew, Prince Ananda Mahidol, to ascend the throne at the tender age of nine, marking the rise of the Mahidol branch. After Ananda's untimely death in nineteen forty-six, his brother Bhumibol Adulyadej, known as Rama IX, succeeded him.

UNESCO has recognized the historical significance of documents and artifacts from King Prajadhipok's reign. His personal collection of photographs and films provides a vivid account of Siam's transition during this period. Additionally, the
