Pramila Jayapal, born on September twenty-first, nineteen sixty-five, is a prominent American politician and financial analyst. Since two thousand seventeen, she has served as the U.S. representative for Washington's seventh congressional district, which encompasses most of Seattle and parts of King County's suburbs. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, Jayapal has made history as the first Indian American woman to hold a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Before her tenure in Congress, Jayapal was an influential civil rights activist in Seattle. She served as the executive director of OneAmerica, an immigrant advocacy organization, until two thousand twelve. Following the September eleventh attacks, she founded the organization, initially named Hate Free Zone, to advocate for the rights of immigrants and promote inclusivity.

In the Washington State Senate, Jayapal represented the thirty-seventh legislative district from two thousand fifteen to two thousand seventeen. She has also played a significant role in national politics, co-chairing the Congressional Progressive Caucus from two thousand nineteen to two thousand twenty-one, and subsequently serving as Chair from two thousand twenty-one to two thousand twenty-five. Her influence extends to her positions on both the Judiciary Committee and the Budget Committee, where she continues to advocate for progressive policies.
