Prem Pal Singh Rawat, born on December tenth, nineteen fifty-seven, is a prominent Indian international speaker and author known for his philanthropic efforts and teachings as a spiritual teacher. His philosophy centers around a meditation practice he refers to as 'Knowledge' and emphasizes peace education, focusing on the discovery of personal resources such as inner strength, choice, appreciation, and hope.
As the youngest son of Hans Ram Singh Rawat, the founder of the Divya Sandesh Parishad, later known as Divine Light Mission, Prem Rawat stepped into a significant role at a tender age of eight following his father's passing. By the age of thirteen, he had moved to the United States, where his message resonated with young adults, leading to a substantial growth in his following.
Despite facing scrutiny from the media regarding his youth and claims of divine status, as well as criticism for his lifestyle and the perceived lack of intellectual depth in his speeches, Rawat's influence continued to expand. His marriage at sixteen to a non-Indian led to a rift with his mother and a split within the organization, which had established itself in fifty-five countries by that time.
In the early nineteen eighties, Rawat began to shift his focus away from religious references in his teachings and closed the ashrams associated with the Divine Light Mission, rebranding it as Elan Vital. Since then, he has traveled extensively, sharing his message of peace with diverse audiences around the globe and receiving recognition for his humanitarian efforts.
In two thousand one, he founded The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF), which supports his humanitarian initiatives. The foundation's Peace Education Program is now utilized by correctional facilities and various service organizations worldwide, furthering his mission to promote peace and personal empowerment.
