Prince Georg Ludwig of Holstein-Gottorp

Prince Georg Ludwig of Holstein-Gottorp, born on March sixteenth, seventeen nineteen, was a distinguished military figure who served both Prussia and Imperial Russia. As the youngest son of Christian August of Holstein-Gottorp, Prince of Eutin, and Albertina Frederica of Baden-Durlach, he was destined for a life of service and leadership.

Georg Ludwig joined the Prussian army in seventeen forty-one, quickly rising through the ranks to become a major general by seventeen forty-four. His military career was marked by his participation in the Seven Years' War, where he served under the esteemed Field Marshal Johann von Lehwaldt. His strategic prowess earned him a promotion to lieutenant-general, a testament to his capabilities on the battlefield.

In seventeen sixty, he played a significant role in the Battle of Torgau. However, his career took a downturn when Frederick the Great dismissed him for not meeting the expected pace of military operations. Following this setback, Georg Ludwig found a new opportunity in the service of his first cousin once removed, Peter III of Russia, and was appointed field marshal on February twenty-first, seventeen sixty-two.

Unfortunately, his tenure in Russia was short-lived due to the revolution led by his niece, Catherine the Great, on June fourth, seventeen sixty-two. This upheaval forced him to return to Kiel, where he spent his final days before passing away shortly thereafter.
