His early career saw him shine with the Accra-based team Hearts of Oak from two thousand four to two thousand five, where he played a pivotal role in securing the Ghana Premier League title in two thousand four. That same year, he also contributed to the team's triumph in the CAF Confederation Cup, finishing as the league's top goal scorer with eighteen goals, earning him the nickname 'Prince of Goals' due to his remarkable striking ability.

Following his success in Ghana, Tagoe ventured into international football, playing for several clubs across Asia. He had stints with Saudi Arabian teams Ittihad and Ettifaq FC, as well as UAE's Al Shabab. In two thousand nine, he signed a three-year contract with Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim, where he made twenty league appearances and netted two goals. His journey continued in two thousand eleven when he joined Serbian club Partizan, contributing twelve goals—nine in the league and three in cup competitions—as the club clinched both the Serbian SuperLiga and the Serbian Cup titles.

On the international stage, Tagoe represented the Ghana national team thirty-six times, scoring seven goals.
