Princess Charlotte of Saxe-Meiningen

Princess Charlotte of Saxe-Meiningen, born on 11 September 1751 in Frankfurt am Main, was a distinguished member of the House of Saxe-Meiningen. Her early life in the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt, part of the Holy Roman Empire, set the stage for her remarkable contributions to the field of astronomy.

Throughout her life, Charlotte was not only a princess by birth but also became a Duchess consort of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg through her marriage to Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. This union further solidified her status within the German nobility and allowed her to engage deeply with the scientific community of her time.

Charlotte's passion for astronomy distinguished her in an era when few women were recognized in the sciences. Her work and dedication to the stars inspired many and contributed to the growing interest in astronomy during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
