Princess Marie Amelie of Baden, born on October eleventh, eighteen seventeen, was the youngest daughter of Charles, Grand Duke of Baden, and Stéphanie de Beauharnais. Her lineage placed her among the notable aristocrats of her time, and she was well-connected within European nobility.
In eighteen forty-three, she entered into marriage with William Hamilton, Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale. This union elevated their status, as they became the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton following the death of William's father in eighteen fifty-two. Their legacy continued through their only daughter, Mary, who would go on to marry Albert I, Prince of Monaco, and become the mother of Louis II.
Princess Marie Amelie was not only a member of the aristocracy but also a cousin and close friend of Napoleon III of France. Her friendship with the Emperor and Empress Eugénie was well-known, and she often accompanied them at official events.
