Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Priscillian

Priscillian, born in the year three hundred forty, was a prominent writer and presbyter hailing from the affluent circles of Roman Hispania. His life was marked by a fervent advocacy for a stringent form of Christian asceticism, which set him apart from many of his contemporaries.

In three hundred eighty, Priscillian ascended to the position of bishop of Ávila, where he began to implement his beliefs. His followers, however, faced criticism for their unconventional practices, such as gathering in country villas rather than attending traditional church services. This divergence from established norms led to significant tensions between Priscillian and other bishops who opposed his views.

The conflict escalated, fueled by political maneuvering on both sides. By around three hundred eighty-five, Priscillian found himself charged with sorcery, a serious accusation that ultimately led to his execution under the authority of Emperor Maximus. His death marked a significant moment in the history of early Christianity.

Despite his tragic end, the ascetic movement known as Priscillianism continued to thrive in Hispania and Gaul until the late sixth century. Remarkably, some of Priscillian's writings, once thought to be lost, were rediscovered in eighteen eighty-five and subsequently published in eighteen eighty-nine, ensuring that his influence would not be forgotten.
