Pylyp Orlyk

Pylyp Orlyk, born on November eleventh, sixteen seventy-two, was a prominent Zaporozhian Cossack statesman and diplomat. His life was marked by his unwavering commitment to the Cossack cause and his role as a member of the Cossack starshyna. Orlyk is often recognized as the first Ukrainian political emigrant, a title that reflects his significant contributions to Ukrainian history.

From seventeen ten until his death in seventeen forty-two, Orlyk served as the hetman in exile. This period was crucial not only for his personal legacy but also for the broader narrative of Ukrainian autonomy and governance. His close association with hetman Ivan Mazepa further solidified his influence and importance within the Cossack leadership.

One of Orlyk's most notable achievements was the authorship of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, a foundational document that outlined the principles of governance for the Cossack state. This constitution is considered a significant milestone in the development of Ukrainian political thought and remains a testament to his vision for a free and independent Ukraine.
