Queenie Newall

Sybil Fenton Newall, known to many as Queenie Newall, was born on October seventeenth, eighteen fifty-four. An accomplished English archer, she made her mark in the world of sports by winning a gold medal at the 1908 Summer Olympics held in London. At the remarkable age of fifty-three, she became the oldest female athlete to secure a gold medal in Olympic history, a record that still stands today.

Newall's journey in archery began when she joined the Cheltenham Archers Club in nineteen oh five. Her dedication and skill quickly propelled her to national prominence, culminating in her being crowned national champion twice, in nineteen eleven and nineteen twelve. Her achievements in the sport were significant, especially considering that Great Britain did not win another women's archery medal at the Olympics until two thousand four.
