Quincy Promes, born on January 4, 1992, is a Dutch former professional footballer renowned for his versatility as a winger and forward. He began his career at FC Twente in 2011, where he showcased his talent over three seasons before making a significant move to Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2014. That same year, he earned his first senior cap for the Netherlands, marking the beginning of an impressive international career.
During his time at Spartak, Promes achieved remarkable success, helping the club secure the Russian Premier League title in 2017. His outstanding performance earned him the title of Footballer of the Year in Russia that same year, and he finished the 2017–18 season as the league's top scorer. Over four years, he made one hundred thirty-five appearances and netted sixty-six goals, solidifying his status as a key player.
In 2018, Promes signed with Sevilla for a reported twenty million euros, but struggled to find his form. He returned to his boyhood club Ajax in 2019, where he regained his prowess and played a pivotal role in the team's success. He represented the Netherlands at UEFA Euro 2020, further enhancing his international profile. Promes made a return to Spartak in 2021, where he became the top scorer in the club's modern era and the leading foreign scorer in the history of the Russian Premier League.
However, Promes' career has been marred by legal troubles. In 2020, he was detained following a stabbing incident and was later convicted of aggravated assault in 2023. His legal issues escalated when he was charged with involvement in cocaine trafficking, leading to a conviction in 2024. Despite these challenges, he continued to play for Spartak until his arrest in the United Arab Emirates in 2024. After a brief release, he joined Dubai United, but was extradited to the Netherlands in June 2025 at the request of Dutch prosecutors.
