Quintus Smyrnaeus was a notable Greek epic poet, renowned for his significant contribution to the literary tradition surrounding the Trojan War. His most celebrated work, the Posthomerica, serves as a continuation of the narrative established by Homer, bridging the gap between the conclusion of the Iliad and the ultimate fate of Troy.

Although the exact dates of Quintus Smyrnaeus' life remain a topic of scholarly debate, he is traditionally believed to have flourished in the latter part of the fourth century AD. This period was marked by a rich tapestry of literary activity, and Quintus' work stands out as the earliest surviving epic that recounts the events following Homer's legendary tales.
