Rached Ghannouchi

Rached Ghannouchi, born on June 22, 1941, is a prominent Tunisian lawyer, politician, and university teacher. He is best known as the co-founder and intellectual leader of the Ennahdha Party, a significant political force in Tunisia. Originally named Rashad Khriji, Ghannouchi has played a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of his country.

In recognition of his influence, Ghannouchi was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People in the World in two thousand twelve. That same year, he was awarded the Chatham House Prize alongside Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki for their contributions to Tunisia's democratic transition. His efforts have also earned him a place on Foreign Policy's list of Top 100 Global Thinkers.

In two thousand sixteen, he received the Jamnalal Bajaj Award for promoting Gandhian values outside India, highlighting his commitment to peace and democracy. On November 13, two thousand nineteen, he was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, a significant position in Tunisia's political framework.

Despite facing challenges, including a narrow escape from a vote of no confidence in July two thousand twenty, Ghannouchi continues to be a central figure in Tunisian politics, advocating for democratic principles and social justice.
