Rachel Levine

Rachel Levine, born on October 28, 1957, is a distinguished American pediatrician and psychiatrist who has made significant contributions to public health. She served as the United States Assistant Secretary for Health and held the esteemed position of Admiral in charge of the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps from 2021 until 2025.

In addition to her role in federal health leadership, Levine is a respected professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at the Penn State College of Medicine. Her career in public service includes notable positions such as the Pennsylvania Physician General from 2015 to 2017 and Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health from 2017 to 2021.

Levine is recognized as one of the few openly transgender government officials in the United States, breaking barriers as the first to hold an office requiring Senate confirmation. On October 19, 2021, she made history by becoming the first openly transgender four-star officer in the nation's eight uniformed services.

In 2022, Levine was honored as one of USA Today's Women of the Year, a recognition that celebrates women who have made a profound impact on society.
