Radmila Šekerinska

Radmila Šekerinska, born on June tenth, nineteen seventy-two, is a prominent Macedonian politician currently serving as the Deputy Secretary General of NATO since December twenty twenty-four. Her extensive political career includes notable roles such as the defense minister of North Macedonia and the first female acting prime minister of the country.

Šekerinska's political journey began with her leadership of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), where she was elected president on November fifth, two thousand six, following a no-confidence motion against her predecessor, Vlado Bučkovski. She held this position until the party congress in September two thousand eight, after which Zoran Zaev succeeded her.

In addition to her role as party leader, Šekerinska served as Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and National Coordinator for Foreign Assistance. Her efforts were instrumental in North Macedonia being granted candidate country status for European Union accession by the European Council in December two thousand five.

Šekerinska's brief tenure as acting Prime Minister saw her lead the country during two critical periods in two thousand four. Her leadership has been marked by a commitment to European integration and national development, making her a significant figure in North Macedonia's political landscape.
