Radoslav Velikov

Radoslav Velikov, born on September second, nineteen eighty-three, is a distinguished Bulgarian freestyle wrestler who has made significant contributions to the sport since he began his journey in nineteen ninety-seven. Competing for Levski Sofia, he trains under the guidance of the esteemed Simeon Shterev, a former world champion and triple European champion, who has also coached the renowned Stanka Zlateva.

Velikov's career is marked by remarkable achievements, including his victory at the 2006 World Championships held in Guangzhou. He showcased his talent on the international stage by securing a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships in Budapest, as well as a silver at the European Championships in Varna the same year. His prowess continued to shine as he earned a bronze medal at the European Championships in Sofia in two thousand seven.

His Olympic journey began at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he finished ninth. However, it was at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing that Velikov truly made his mark, clinching a bronze medal in the fifty-five-kilogram category. This achievement was particularly remarkable as he competed with a serious knee injury that had cast doubt on his participation, relying on painkillers to overcome the challenge.

Despite his successes, Velikov faced setbacks, including a missed opportunity for another bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where he lost to Shinichi Yumoto in the bronze medal match. His resilience and dedication to wrestling continue to inspire many in the sport.
