Rafael Urdaneta

Rafael Urdaneta, born on October twenty-fourth, seventeen eighty-eight, was a prominent Venezuelan general and a key figure in the Spanish American wars of independence. His military prowess and strategic acumen earned him a reputation as a national hero, deeply committed to the cause of liberation from colonial rule.

In the year eighteen thirty, Urdaneta orchestrated a military coup that resulted in the overthrow of President Joaquín Mosquera. Following this significant political upheaval, he ascended to the presidency of Gran Colombia, a position he held until eighteen thirty-one. His tenure was marked by political turbulence, culminating in his ousting by José María Obando and José Hilario López.

Throughout his career, Urdaneta remained a steadfast supporter of Simón Bolívar, one of the most influential leaders of the independence movement.
